Solar Resources & Education
We believe an informed homeowner makes the best decisions. Explore our in-depth guides on solar technology, battery storage, financing, and everything you need to take control of your energy future in the Coachella Valley and beyond.
Getting Started with Solar
Before a single panel goes on your roof, there are critical factors we evaluate to make sure solar is the right investment for you.
Is Solar Right for Your Home?
Not every home is a perfect candidate for solar — and we'll tell you honestly. During our free site survey, we evaluate several critical factors:
- ●Roof Condition & Age: Your roof should have at least 10-15 years of life remaining. If it needs replacement soon, we'll recommend doing that first to avoid costly uninstall/reinstall later.
- ●Electrical Panel Capacity: Older homes may need a panel upgrade (typically 100A to 200A) to safely handle solar production and battery storage. We inspect this on every site visit.
- ●Shade & Orientation: Using Aurora Solar design software, we run a detailed shade analysis to determine how much sunlight your roof receives throughout the year. South and west-facing roofs perform best in the Coachella Valley.
- ●Energy Usage Patterns: We pull 12 months of utility data to size your system correctly — not too big, not too small. Oversizing wastes money; undersizing leaves savings on the table.
Understanding Your Electricity Bill
Your utility bill is the roadmap to your solar savings. Here's what we look at and what you should know:
- ●Rate Structure (TOU vs. Tiered): Edison, IID, and LADWP each have different rate structures. Time-of-use (TOU) rates charge more during peak hours (4-9 PM), which is exactly when battery storage pays for itself.
- ●Peak vs. Off-Peak Usage: In the Coachella Valley, summer AC bills can skyrocket. We identify when you use the most power and design your system to offset those expensive peak hours.
- ●Baseline Allowance: Your utility gives you a baseline amount of cheap electricity. Once you exceed it, rates jump dramatically — sometimes 2-3x. Solar eliminates those expensive upper tiers.
- ●True Cost Calculation: We calculate your actual cost per kWh (including fees and surcharges), then show you exactly what solar will cost per kWh over 25 years. Most homeowners see 40-60% savings.
Technology & Equipment
The equipment on your roof will be there for 25+ years. Here's why we only install premium brands — and what sets them apart.

Solar Panels We Install & Trust
We've tested and installed thousands of panels across Southern California. These are the brands we stand behind — each backed by 25-year manufacturer warranties:
Qcell (Hanwha)
Industry-leading efficiency at 20.6%+. Anti-reflective coating performs exceptionally in the desert heat. Our top recommendation for most residential installs. German-engineered with rigorous quality testing.
Mission Solar
American-made panels from San Antonio, TX. Excellent performance-to-price ratio. Built to withstand extreme heat — perfect for Coachella Valley summers where temperatures regularly exceed 110°F.
Longi Solar
World's largest solar panel manufacturer. Their Hi-MO series delivers outstanding efficiency at a competitive price point. Ideal for larger systems where maximizing value per watt matters.
Battery Storage: Your Energy Independence
With NEM 3.0 now in effect for Edison customers, battery storage has gone from "nice to have" to "essential." Under NEM 3.0, the value of energy you export to the grid dropped by ~75%. Batteries let you store your solar energy and use it during expensive peak hours instead of giving it away for pennies.
Tesla Powerwall 3
13.5 kWh capacity with integrated inverter. Seamless whole-home backup during outages. Built-in solar inverter simplifies installation. Best for homeowners who want a complete, sleek system with app-based monitoring.
Enphase IQ 5P
5 kWh modular battery — stack multiple units to match your needs. Pairs perfectly with Enphase microinverter systems. LFP chemistry means longer lifespan and safer operation. Ideal for targeted backup of essential circuits.
Enphase IQ 10T
10 kWh capacity in a single unit. Our go-to for homeowners who want substantial backup without stacking multiple batteries. Excellent for offsetting peak TOU rates and providing overnight power from daytime solar production.
Ownership, Savings & Maintenance
Solar is a 25-year investment. Understanding your financing options and maintenance schedule ensures you get the maximum return.
Financing Options Explained
There's no one-size-fits-all answer. We walk you through every option so you can choose what fits your budget and goals:
- ●Cash Purchase: Best long-term value. You own the system outright, claim the full 30% federal tax credit, and see the fastest ROI. Average residential system: ~$39,850 before incentives.
- ●Solar Loan: $0 down with fixed monthly payments, often lower than your current electric bill. You still own the system and qualify for the tax credit. We work with ENFIN and CONCERT for competitive rates.
- ●PPA (Power Purchase Agreement): No upfront cost, no ownership responsibility. You simply buy the power at a lower rate than the utility. Great for homeowners who want savings without the commitment of ownership. We partner with Palmetto Lightreach.
Federal Tax Credit (ITC)
The current 30% Investment Tax Credit means a $39,850 system could save you ~$11,955 on your federal taxes. This credit is available through 2032 for cash and loan purchases.
Maintaining Your Solar System
Solar panels are low-maintenance, but "low" doesn't mean "no." Especially in the desert, regular care keeps your system performing at peak efficiency:
- ●Panel Cleaning (2x/year): Desert dust, bird droppings, and pollen can reduce output by 15-25%. We recommend professional cleaning every 6 months — especially after dust storms common in the Coachella Valley.
- ●System Inspections (2x/year): Our $150 flat-fee inspection covers all major components — panels, wiring, inverters, racking, and roof penetrations. We document everything with photos and videos.
- ●Monitoring Setup: Every system we install includes real-time monitoring through the manufacturer's app (Enphase Enlighten or Tesla app). You can see exactly how much energy you're producing and consuming — down to the individual panel.
- ●Warranty Coverage: All our installations include a 10-year roof and workmanship warranty on top of the 25-year manufacturer warranty. If anything goes wrong with the installation, we fix it — period.
